Animals on books

Lately i have been busy creating sketchbooks/journals. I came across a large handful of National Audubon Society books from the 70's. I then took the front and back covers of the books and chose an animal of my desire to draw on the front cover of my "new" book.

I drew on the covers with a wood burning tool, so that the image would not fade or smear after time. I also added some colorful handmade paper to give the journals some more life.

"Covered"
wax and mixed media

This series is stemmed from the intriguing and confusing phrase, “covered by the blood of Jesus.” I grew up in church and have never been able to fully wrap my head around this concept. I chose to explore the concept through the means of carefully choosing each person, covering them in red, and watching as each one becomes a new “being” or a new creature. Most of the time, the wax feels out the panel and I just watch it seek its place; I have almost no control in what path it will choose.
