Everyone has a story

I cut a tree and this is what I found:

A warrior on a horse?

I will soon be working on big chunks of wood.  I'm excited.  I might incorporate wax... we shall see.

Beautify Haiti, Project 1

So Praise God, i was able to paint a mural in Haiti!  It was like nothing else i have ever experienced.  One doesnt get to have options when in Haiti.  There's no Home Depot.  There's just a random room in some sorta house next to a hundred vendors staring at us white folks.  Thanks to a dear new haitian friend, Fritz, we managed to get paint. However, it was oil based.  Not the best for clean up (I had my hands cleaned with gasoline for the first time). The paint looked as if it had been sitting in a room for the last twenty years.

I learned that tools and supplies are important, but they are not what create a piece of work.  It is our hands and mind that produce a work of art.  It really is a just a bonus of you have nice supplies.

So anyways, i documented the proces of the mural:

What we had to work with.

Some of the boys wanted to help out.  It was pretty fun.

Mural Potential

So, im going to Haiti, to and orphanage.  They asked if i could paint a mural.  I have never created one, but i said yes because i think it would be such fun! So this is my potential creation.  There might be a few modifications with the piece once it actually happens.

The concept behind this (other than giving life to a cement compound) is to remember our source.  God is our source, and our center.  He has given us living water.  God is the neverending source of living water and He is always supplying our need to keep going.  A river always pushes forth even if boulders are in its way, it moves it or works its way around it.  Life has many boulders, but with Christ we can always push forward and perservere.  The children in Haiti have experienced more boulders than we can ever imagine.  And i pray they can see this as a constant reminder that God is always with them.

"If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him'"
John 7:37-38

Vuillard Sketch

This sketchbook has hand cut paper fit for all your sketching needs.  I took a wood burning tool to the front and copied a sketch from Vuillard.  I added a nice paper for the inside covers.  enjoy!

Dinos are back

I taught a friend how to embroidery.  She says she can't draw.  However, this truly proves her wrong.

This is my thank you for teaching her and i love it!

whale of a deal!

I found a deal at a garage sale!  A sweet rug for eight bucks!  Apparently the people bought it in London, Englad too.  It feels so good on my feet and fits perfectly under my workbench.

now, i just have to be ok with wax falling on it.

Christmas came early!

I hosted a make up encaustic workshop for some ladies who couldn't make it to the class in May.  I ended up spending the day with one of the ladies and she more than blessed me with supplies and materials to get me into full production mode for making books.  Even the paper alone is worth more than my paychecks right now!  I couldnt stop smiling all day!

one is a typewriting book that has hand exercises on the front cover! haha!

leathers and suede for making covers!  they are about 8.5" by 11"

Oh my! and papers!

She told me in her sweet voice,  "Well come in whenever, the door is always open.  Feel free to take whatever you need."
I informed her that she should not tell me this, because she will one day enter her studio and nothing will be there.

I finally found my art benefactor!

This just in

I need to get to work:

I have much to do and many ideas.  I have been thinking about creating recipie books, folders, mini books and all kinds inbetween.  I have been going to garage sales and looking on craigslist with a frenzy.  So now, its high time i begin creating.

Two in One

More new techniques!  I prefer using all the materials I have, so I used a page from a book I took apart and an old map of CA:

                                                                   HIGH MOUNTAIN

its size is about 3" by 3" and has 20 pages in each signature

THE ROAD IS HERE

this is about 5" by 8"
folded map size

mini books!

I learned some new book binding techniques!  These are really the simplist way of all...i guess i should have began with this:

they are about 3" by 4"
pocket size.
